Statement  Manchester to me is “mini London '' but warmer, smaller and more exciting. Growing up visiting Manchester on a regular basis with my parents I feel it has become my second home. From shopping with my parents when I was younger, to venturing to the northern quarter and living as a city worker for a week, I can safely say I love Manchester. Equally the passionate, and diverse population of Manchester alongside the fast expansion of the city and so many different architectural styles and job opportunities I would relish the opportunity to study in Manchester. Recently visiting the Tadao Ando building in Piccadilly gardens I left feeling underwhelmed. I’d argue that Tadao Ando’s design does not invite a tranquil entrance the park should hold, rather it does the opposite. I believe that instead of dividing the urban landscape, trams and bus stops from the park he created a monument that highlights such segregation and completely misses the point of it’s intended use. "Perfection" I drew this still life in pencil, I titled it perfection as It displays the constant issue many creatives face not feeling fulfilled within our ideas. The crumpled paper displays my constant disregard for ideas and frustration through the burst paint, whilst the dying plant highlights the negligence to my own health and those around me. However my wabi sabi inspired pot reminds me of the beauty of imperfection, embracing the process, something I have improved greatly upon over the last year.

"Respiratory Sports Hall" I have included a handful of my favourite initial and developed sketches of my current project, this is my major project for year 13, I am designing a sports centre for Manchester university as they lack any current sporting courses and is a great opportunity to boost intake. I am designing a building with muscular strands surrounding the exterior which will contract and constrict depending on the intensity of the sun allowing shade within the building, similarly designed structures will be inside contracting and constricting allowing interesting and evenly dispersed airflow. These take inspiration from the muscles surrounding the lungs and the bronchioles within the lungs themselves.

"Bird Hide" here we were given a broad brief with just the site location and to connect the inside to the outside. After much site analysis and research I decided to design a bird hide taking inspiration from the birds nest itself, here I have included my final model, initial concepts and the development. I'm proud of how much I believe I have progressed since last year in terms of perceiving things from a much deeper abstract lens whilst remaining logical, this project taught me perseverance and the initial steps in designing a building.
